Re: Caution: LH-DC110: Suggestion and a question

Just looked through this thread and I have an intermediate suggestion.  If the lens hood screws in to the 37 mm filter thread you shouldn't use for filters, but the hood is too bulky, then get a 37mm to 49mm step up ring.  Much much cheaper than the $50 USD hood, much thinner, lighter, and stands the filter off the lens a bit.

Now, my question.  I've always used a polarizer filter and wouldn't get a G1X3 without the ability to mount one.  If I get a 37mm polarizer would it vignette?  Anyone have any experience with this?  The front element looks to be considerably smaller than the (non-)filter threads, but worth asking.

Another suggestion, if the light reduction of a UV filter worries you, get a Hoya HMC clear protector.  Almost no measurable light loss.  Not that I'd think you'd notice it with a UV anyway.

My instinct at this point is to go with a Hoya 37mm polarizer.  How can a large camera company provide filter threads and then not service your camera if you use them?
