Re: Caution: Use the Canon LH-DC110 with the G1X III

Peter Bendheim had neat idea when he used a piece of paper to ensure that the filter was not binding as the lens moved in and out.
Thank you.
Interestingly, nothing whatsoever does move in and out of the front part of the lens when it focuses. So if it works, nothing is going to interfere with it, not now, not ever - unless you drop the camera, - which will probably destroy the entire camera anyway, especially if it's on and the lens is extended.
So, it's as rigid as can be, fixed into place, unmoving. There is also a small ridge directly around the glass part of the lens which is I think, as high as the apex of the lens.
And for a person that asked earlier - no, it's a completely proper normal filter thread. The filter glides into the thread like any filter into any lens. I think Canon is in the accessory selling business. I also wrote to Canon Europe's Support Dept to see if they have the same answer as their US colleagues - mostly because I think it's so stoopid of Canon.
Anyway, after Marco's post, I'll be uber careful and only use it in environmentally hazardous situations, such as photographing my mother in law.
Peter, my bad. I should have read your words again before I commented earlier. I now understand what you did with the slip of paper. And I have less cause for worry than I did earlier, even after rereading Marco Nero's post. If I end up with the G1Xiii, I will put a filter on it, and I will do your piece of paper test. I won't tighten it excessively, and I will not worry about any problems arising from the filter. john
