Are you sure the filter is not cutting a thread for itself and it is just the diameter that is right. This issue on the lenses not being properly threaded for filters is very old and has been much discussed over the years. If there are signs that a filter has been forced on the lens that would seem a bit of a warranty killer.

Yes, I’m sure. The filter screws on and off easily.

Looks like it. A bit daft Canon using a standard 37mm filter thread to build the lens and not making it absolutely clear from the outset that it should not be used as a a filter holder if that is the case. Especially as this issue has been raised so many time with previous bridge cameras.

A pity people's enjoyment of this camera is being ruined by all this confusion.
