I recently brought a Panasonic G7 and have noticed that the mic level meter is active when I'm taking photos. Is this normal? Is there a way to turn off the mic and have it turn on automatically when I want to record video.

I'm thinking that the misc could be using more power from my battery when it's not needed.

It normal and AFAIK there is no way to turn it off; though you can hide the mic level display if you find it distracting.

I wouldn't worry about the power drain, it will be minimal compared to what the rest of the camera is using, and is probably always running to be ready if the video record button gets pressed.

Thanks hindesite. Thats what I needed to know.
