Re: Caution: Use the Canon LH-DC110 with the G1X III

How funny. So nobody at Canon noticed those threads on the lens? To which a 37 mm filter attaches perfectly but apparently shouldn’t?
Actually I imagine somebody did but, as is typical in large corporations, nothing was done with that information.
I’m not doing the lens hood. Defeats the purpose of having a small-profile travel camera. So I’ll just have to depend on the fiddly lens cap to do its job. I attached a cheap leash to it so at least it’s unlikely to disappear.
The hood definitely is not for pocket use. I never pocket mine though, it's always slung around me.
It does, however, pose a problem when I store it in my glove box, which I haven't done since I got my hood yet.
It's a nice hood though, it's not cheap, it's not heavy, and it probably works with the filter mount to keep the front element secure in addition to protecting it from bumps, scratches, and of of course, unwanted stray light. That latter part, makes that hood a bit big to be of use for the latter, which is a real problem on any lens/camera and hoods are nice as they reduce unwanted glare.
But yeah, unlike the G1X III which I highly recommend to anyone with deep pockets, the hood, it's something I'd recommend only for those doing the same as myself, they're not pocketing it ever, but slinging it. Makes sense for that approach.
Even so, the jury is still out on it. This weekend I should be able to give more of a read on it.
It looks nice and does it's job well though thus far. But the added bulk and the fact it hurts when it swings around and hits you, or say your kid you're buckling into a car seat, eh, it might be a liability actually.
Thanks for the info; much appreciated.
