Lacking landscape details (Sony A7r II and Canon 16-35 f/4L IS)

Dear Forumers,

I shot some wide angle landscape photos in the Italian Alps last year with my newly acquired Sony A7r II + MC-11 + Canon 16-35 f/4L combo. On the spot, viewing images on the rear LCD, everything seemed OK with the pictures.

Processing the RAW images in Adobe Camera Raw, the first thing I noticed on the pictures was the lack of details. My former body (Canon 6D) took photos with better character and - despite having an AA filter - much more fine detail as well.

The posted sample picture below is correctly focused and exposed I think. I left sharpness and details sliders on their default values in ACR.

Considering the top notch image quality of the A7r II body's sensor, have I done something wrong, or my expectations (with adapting Canon lens) are too high?

Please share your experiences.
