EM is our first Nikon camera. IICR it uses F mount supporting ai, so basically any Nikon lenses could be used on it.

At the time the EM came out, there were still many more non-AI lenses in circulation. The other Nikon SLRs of the day could mount those, the EM could not.

History repeats itself: the lower end Nikons of today can't mount many older lenses while the high end bodies can. The marketing rationale is the same, pros owning lots of legacy glass are not the target buyer.

I had (and still have) a Nikkormat Ftn and three Nikon lenses including the famed 80-200 f4. When Nikon introduced the ai mount, I received a letter from them saying that they would update my lenses free of charge.

I was then able to use those lenses on the EM that I bought later. Since then, I bought a pristine condition 1970's 105 f2.5 for my m4/3 bodies.

All working perfectly.
