16 MP sensor and 3:2 ratio. Do I lose much in quality

I noticed that many M43 cameras are 16 MP's, I'm not certain why that is. There are only a few cameras such as the Panasonic GX8 that has a 20 MB M43 sensor. Maybe someone could tell me why 16MP is perfected for a M43 sensor.

I prefer using the 3:2 ratio than the 4:3 ratio as I like view on photos on a 16:9 monitor and 16:9 TV and if I'm printing small photos then my printing paper is 10x15cm which suits the 3:2 ratio.
My problem is that the camera manual for the Panasonic G7 camera tells me that my MP will drop from 16MP (for 4:3 ratio) to 14MP (for 3:2 ratio) due to cropping of the sensor. It's something I didn't think about when buying the camera. So I'm wondering as the sensor is larger than the 1/2.3 and 1 inch sensors do I lose much photo quality when using the 3:2 ratio for my photos?
