As a counter example I would suggest binocular fusion. It only exists in ones head. But it is easy to detect people with dysfunctions of binocular fusion by performance tests involving assembly of objects or movement through spaces.

I don't think that counts as quantifying a least the way I understand the term.

It's a diagnostic test to see if a person suffers from the dysfunction. It in no way can show what the person actually sees in his mind.
