I haven't owned E-P5 or E-M10iii, but I had E-M1 and E-M10i, and the answer is it depends on what you're going to do with it. Everything I have read seems to point to the E-M10iii as a crippled or dumbed down camera compared to the E-m10ii, really aimed at beginners and cell phone converts. The E-P5 and EM1 are both great cameras that offer the user a ton of control. Other than 4K, not sure what you'd gain

Seriously? The new Mark III is a "dumbed down" vision of the Mark II? Considering the annotated improvements in the Mark III's focusing, menu re-alignment and other improvements mentioned by Olympus, I think your analysis is dumbed down. The E-P5 is a prior generation camera thats not even to specs to the current E-P7.

Well you would think that the em10 mkiii is far superior to the e-p5 with over 4 years of evolution but sadly theres very little in the new em10iii that demonstrates this.

there are advantages to each and the e-p5 still has some advantages over the em10iii and is over half the price of em10iii now, well mine was a few years ago..

as for the epl7, the e-p5 is better in most ways and the epl7 is an em10ii

My understanding is that the E-pl7 has the same guts as the E-M10 mark I?

yes i think thats right

So, maybe if the E-pl9 materialises, it could basically be an E-M10 ii or iii without a viewfinder?

with no built in evf and less manual controls.. and many think the em10ii is the sweet spot in value/performance

My bet is that it'll be an E-M10-3 without viewfinder, so same dumbed down menu and plastic build. It will also keep the E-PL tradition of having one control wheel.

Maybe Olympus will surprise us with something close to a GM5 in size.

You had to say it didn’t you? Just when my GM7 yearnings had receded a bit 😉

The GAS is strong with this one

I wouldn't worry - I don't think Olympus will put in the kind of R&D needed to shrink the Pen's shutter and IBIS system enough to bring it down to GM5 or GX850 levels. My E-PM2 is still much larger than my fiancee's GM5.
