Olympus and the way the lines have become.

Yes, the E-P5 has everything that I listed, I just want to know if the newer camera is better at all that.
No, the E-M10 Mk3 is a dumbed down model, dumbest one ever, it lacks features that even the simplest and early E-PL1 had. But it works OK as a basic camera for someone who has never used Olympus before and/or is frightened of the menu system.
What is "better" than the E-P5 would be open to debate as to what features mattered most to you.
Apart from the E-M10 Mk3 missing the often useful RC mode for slave flashes the most important missing feature in my tiny mind is the lack of any MySets or Custom modes. That is a real killer. Various configurability road blocks also exist, see the original thread begun by Helen at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/60125017
For me the name "E-M10" is wrong for that Mk3 model as it is definitely not an E-M10, it needs a new name to keep it in line with much earlier naming systems used by Olympus so should have been an E-M100, or even an E-M1000. They used to add extra digits for the lesser models.
The range for OM-D models in truth looks like this now.....
- Top tier, pro and keen enthusiast. E-M1 Mk1 and Mk2
- Enthusiast model. E-M5 Mk1 and Mk2
- Entry model. E-M10 Mk1 and Mk2.
- Basic model, limited configurability. E-M10 Mk3
Also the fear of waiting for E-PL9 is that they have done exactly the same dumbing down process, so to repeat the exercise the Pen line is confused but should most likely be looked on like this.....
- Enthusiast model, experimental release only, may not evolve. Pen-F.
- Enthusiast line. E-P1/2/3/5 (stalled possibly because of OM-D and Pen-F development).
- Lite line but not light on features. E-PL1/2/3/5/6/7/8 big sellers in Japan so will keep going.
- Small body but with Lite features. E-PM1/2 finished now it seems, no more here.
As for me, 100% happy to stay with E-P5 until something better emerges that suits me, nothing seen as yet, maybe only the fabled global shutter (if it ever surfaces) will move me on from the E-P5. My E-P5 menu help page encourages me to stay sane and use the E-P5 and not bother with other bodies now.
It is usually lenses that make most difference, not the bodies, so see to a good lens collection before getting more bodies.
