Shower Boards as V-Flats?

I'm trying to practice studio photography in a little apartment on a college campus. I'd like to start practicing bouncing light with v-flats, but cant find the gatorfoam or foam core at an affordable price. I ran across some Shower board at a hardware store and wondered if this would work in place of a v-flat.

1. Can this work as a V-Flat? I noticed it has a bit of a semi-glossy look. Since I have never seen an actually V-flat, I don't know how much different this is from one.

Any input and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
