I've done a fair amount of travel with various pieces of photography kit, and the one thing I've learnt over the years is:

Keep it small, light, and simple.

To me that means my EM10 + 14-42IIR + 9-18mm - all in a tiny bag with and extra battery and pocket-sized tripod.

No fuss, no frills, just unobtrusive and out of the way.

That's about what I'd be into... I'd probably bring 2 extra batteries though because my EM10 seems to run through them really fast. I'd bring only a couple of lenses as well; a mid-range zoom, like the one that you've suggested (I'd bring a 2.8 one, if I had such a thing) and maybe a faster prime as well. I think though that especially if I had a 2.8 zoom that goes down to 12mm (like the Oly 12-40 or the Panasonic 12-35), I could probably be OK with only that, if I was wanting to go super-compact... then again another small m43 lens isn't going to add much extra weight or take up much extra space, so you might as well bring that too...

I think that even with only a single mid-range zoom, that you'd have enough versatility to get most of the shots that you'd care to take... at least I know that I would.

Not that there's any wrong answer, but I find it interesting that a number of responses recommend a second body, several lenses, etc... That kind of kit starts getting away from being truly compact, in my view.
