It SHOULD be EF-M.... but you never know

Mirrorless cameras have a much shorter flange distance than DSLRs, so Canon really only has two options:

  • Use the existing EF mount, and build the adapter into the body (like the Sigma sd Quattro or Pentax K-01 do). This has the advantage of providing an instant lens catalog and will please anyone who already owns Canon EF lenses, but has the disadvantage of making the overall kit a bit larger. It also won't attract non EF users who want  a smaller and lighter kit.
  • Use the existing EF-M mount, provided it is wide enough to support full frame. And I believe it is. This has two advantages. Naturally it can use smaller and lighter lenses, but the biggest benefit goes to Canon since they get to sell new lenses to millions of their existing customers. This benefit cannot be overstated in the current industry financial climate.

There are a lot of good reasons for Canon to create new lenses designed expressly for their new system. The new lenses will be smaller, lighter, and will create a brand new revenue stream for them. And they will also be usable on their EOS-M APSC cameras, an otherwise excellent system which suffers from a lack of lenses right now.
