IMO, what makes the most sense for Canon FF mirrorless is to go EF mount.
Doing that would save Canon a bundle of R&D money, that would be necessary to create a complete set of new mirrorless-specific FF lenses.
Not an issue. Olympus and Fuji made a gamble by creating a large catalog of mirroless lenses despite their much smaller market share. Fuji started from zero.
I don't see a reason why Canon the behemoth can't do the same and they could maintain EF and EF-M systems running simultaneously for a long time and let the market decide.
Business wise Canon can make more money by selling EF-M pro glass than remaining with the EF mount.
And where is the compact FF mirrorless option if Canon were to stick to the EF mount?
the mount has very little to do with a compacked MILC
It totally does, I've yet to see a P&S compact with long flange back distance. lol
add a good sized grip to that compact say like a sony A9 or evan a A7rii...and when you put a flange on it to take lenses the grip will still stick out in front of the flange even if the flange distance is 44mm like EF mount ...if you read my other posts on this thread you will see the lens mount has or can have no bearing on lens size ....i am not going to repeat it all in the same thread...but here is a FF camera that's smaller than any Digital FF MILC today with a longer flange distance than the EF mount..and still has it mirror ...which must mean flange distance has little effect on camera /lense size ....

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer
