the mount has very little to do with a compacked MILC

It totally does, I've yet to see a P&S compact with long flange back distance. lol

What is a flange distance of a compact P&S and how is that relevant?

Believe it or not P&S follow the same physics rules of optics than professional DSLRs, P&S with fixed lens are designed with a very short flange back distance for compactness and performance.

Flange distance does not make sense on fixed lens cameras.

I was responding to why the Mount has a lot to do with size. That is a good example and the reason why there are no P&S with long flange back distances.

What is the flange distance of the FZ1000? An ILC is not a fixed FL one and should be compared to smaller cameras with zooms.
