EF if Canon wants the new line to be seen as a serious, 'professional' camera by the faithful, EF-M (or even some new mount) if they are going to position it like the current M system, as a bottom-end, consumer-level line.

It's opposite as my last post said. EF-mount mirrorless with legacy EF lenses will be doomed in the performance, no way can compete to current ML leaders in AF-C tracking. Does DPAF in 5D IV, 1Dx II etc can compete their own PDAF via separate AF/AE sensor thru OVF in sport, wildlife and fast action photos? If Canon can achieve that, then a mirrorless EF-mount with DPAF makes sense. Double amount of pixels is a heavy burden impacting burst rate and buffer depth as well.

Here is M5 DPAF vs A6500 PDAF+CDAF (hybrid on-sensor AF).

I'm not talking technical aspects, which makes little difference in Canon's decisions, IMO, I am talking how they want the system to be perceived and positioned, which is the marketing aspect, and what seems to be the controlling criteria for Canon.

But hey, if they actually do ever drop a 35mm MILC, I guess we will see, right? Until then, anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's.
