Nikon 16-80 F2.8-4 vs Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 C

The Sigma has been my walk-round lens and recently I have got a copy of Nikon 16-80, so I just put them together and did some comparison.

All photos were taken on tripod, hoods on, and with VR/OS off. D500 setting has stayed the same. Single focus at the 3rd red Chinese word.

To my layman eyes, it seems the Sigma is sharper all around.

With the premium the Nikon lens is fetching, I was hoping it could deliver better sharpness.

Your thoughts or inputs would be appreciated.

Sigma @ 50mm ISO 100 F5.6 1/640

Nikon @ 50mm ISO 100 F5.6 1/640

Sigma @ 35mm ISO 100 F5.6 1/640

Nikon @ 35mm ISO 100 F5.6 1/640

Sigma @ 70mm ISO 110 F11 1/125

Nikon @ 80mm ISO 100 F11 1/160

Left is Sigma and right is Nikon, @ F11, the word from the Sigma seems sharper to me.
