Re: STM vs L

When I first received my 55-250 STM lens, I compared it with my 70-200 f2.8L IS (original, not MKII). Over all the focal lengths and apertures where they overlap, images from the cheap lens were close enough in quality that it was hard to tell the difference. Yes, the L lens focuses faster, has a faster max aperture, and is more robust - but it is also MUCH bigger, MUCH heavier, and about 8x the cost. There are times when I need the 70-200 L lens, but the rest of the time (when shooting a crop body) I'll take the STM lens.

And the cheap lens is much better when I need the extra 15mm at the wide end or 50mm at the long end!
