I suspect that by the time you're done, you will have recommendations for pretty much every possible combo. Anyway....

If I really wanted to pare down, I'd seriously consider the following.

• Panasonic LX100

Actually, my E-PM2+pancake is smaller/lighter than the LX-100, so I will stick with this for now...

• Oly 40-150 f/4-5.6

Agreed. Unless I get the 14-150, at which point the 40-150R becomes redundant...

• Your current body

Yes. You'll have to pry the E-M5 from my cold dead hands (either one, but I do love the e-shutter and focus peaking on the mkii.)

• Optional: Either Oly 17mm f/1.8 or PL 15mm

This has a few advantages.

- LX100 is tiny, light, excellent lens, wide aperture, very solid

Or the E-PM2 with a fast prime will work for evening, low light, pocket use.

- Two bodies means you have a backup

Yes, and there are two of us, although my wife shoots far less than I do.

- You can also leave the 40-150 on your Oly body, instead of switching lenses

More likely to do this with the 14-150 - I find the 40-150 much too limiting usually.

- All of this will fit in one tiny bag for carry-on

Yes!

- Reasonable cost

The only drawback IMO is that you have to travel with two battery chargers and/or mismatched batteries; and that you'll deal with two different menu systems.

Two batteries, yes, but no menu issue currently. As an Oly user, I find Pany menus a bit odd, but I'm sure I could get used to them if I needed to.

Thanks for the tips. A 14-150 and 15/17 are high on the list right now...
