Nikon and Canon make a broad range of products. Their entry level gear is not built to the same spec as the pro level gear.

Even in the film days, people were shocked when Nikon introduced the entry-level fully auto (with no manual override) plastic bodied EM and the E series of cheaper lenses for it...many older Nikon lenses could not even be mounted!

EM is our first Nikon camera (the 2nd slr of us), as a reward from my wife's company for her contribution. By that time Nikon was an expansive name for a fresh salaryman. Love it and later upgraded to FG, then FE2, F601QD and F801S. F90 is my last slr.

It is very small (in the standard at that time), easy to use. IICR it uses F mount supporting ai, so basically any Nikon lenses could be used on it. The much larger and heavier Nikkor zoom lenses had long been retired, but find the small E series 50 and 28 be still useful on my M43 bodies today.
