70-300II Nano USM: Gem or Dud?

With Canon's recent refurb sale, plus a Canon Store coupon, I can pick up the 70-300II nano USM for about $340 after tax. I think that's a pretty good deal.

The 70-200's are not in stock refurbished. I've used the f/2.8 and f/4 versions in the past and they were great. Just not sure I can justify buying them today since I won't be using this lens professionally, rather for travel and maybe daytime sports (on a 5D IV).

So, is the new 70-300II worth it at that price point? I know I will find myself at 200-300mm often, and won't be happy with mushy detail. Sample photos seem sharp enough though! Not sure to go for it or just save up for another 70-200 or even the 70-300L.
