Windows 7 and external hard drives larger than 2TB

Silly question, but I've Googled and haven't found a straight Yes or No answer.

Does Windows 7 recognize the full capacity of external hard drives larger than 2.2TB without any special formatting or partitioning needed?

I.e., if I connect a 4TB external hard drive straight from the box to a Windows 7 PC will Windows 7 recognize and be able to use the full 4TB (minus whatever is already used as it comes)? Or will I have to set it up like an internal drive?

These hard drives would not be used for booting up PCs.

Thanks!

George
