I am a beginner despite shooting for many years. I have many questions.

So, to start with, I'm little, and a large camera doesn't work for me. But the one I do have doesn't either. I have a Canon SL1 and use a Canon 75-300 to shoot birds in flight, specifically raptors. It's not getting me close enough. None of my shots will ever be a prize, but I get huge enjoyment from close ups and action shots. I use a kenko doubler, it helps somewhat but hunts a lot and I miss shots.

I recently got a harness set up which is better for my arthritis. And I'm once again thinking about a new lens. I'm retired, budgeting, thinking under $1000.

I'm considering these...

Tamron 100-600

Tamron 100-600 G2

Sigma 100-600 contemporary

Canon 100-400 and try the doubler. I haven't figured out if they are compatible yet.

I also see that there are several generations of the canon and don't want to get a model that is archaic.

I am definitely considering used. Weight is a big factor.

I have a point and shoot with incredible zoom, but birds rarely pose for me.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
