Telephoto Lenses

I have been researching telephoto lenses for my canon 80d and one lens that keeps catching my eye is the Sigma 150-600 5-6.3 contemporary.

I need to get something with at least 300mm of reach or even 400mm, my canon 70-300 is usm was a step up from my kit lens, from the 70-200 range I love it, but at 300mm it becomes mush. I have read that is common in that particular lens.

I cant afford anything over $1000 so the tamron 150-600 g2 isn't an option. Is the sigma my best choice for wildlife under $1000? I am having a hard time finding another lens that is better for my needs. It appears very sharp in sample photos found on the internet, such as this one. And this one. Do you think the new Tamron 100-400  is better?

Please let me know if you have used the sigma or know of any good telephotos for canon.

Thanks!

Canon EOS 80D Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2
