That is all well and good.
So you do accept Steve's explanation of what we're talking about. Good.
I explained what I was talking about and that I was talking about something different...
Do you mean, "A f/4 lens will most definitely still be able to achieve focus in lower lighting conditions than a f/5.6 lens and that is what we are talking about."?
If so I'm confused, because Steve explained why that's false.
because in my opinion Willa was vague in her statement.
My original statement? "It's a common misconception that an f/4 lens will PD AF better than an all-other-things-being-equal f/5.6 lens. There's no advantage since they both pass the same intensity of light to the AF sensors."
Once she clarified what she was talking about...
This one? " I'm stating there is no advantage to a lens with a maximum aperture wider than that [f/5.6] (all other things being equal)."
This one? "We are talking about why they [an f/4 lens and an f/5.6 lens] will perform the same, all other things being equal."
This one? "The AF sensors receive the same amount of light through an f/4 lens as they do through an f/5.6 lens, so no advantage to a f/4 lens in AF performance, all other things being equal."
What was the crucial thing missing from the vague one that makes it clear?
I figured out the two of us were talking about different things and said so.
What is the different thing you're talking about? By "different" I assume you means something other than just the opposite of what I've been saying all along.
Instead of that being the end of it, which it should have been I keep getting the same information rammed down my throat that I was already well aware of in the first place. Wilma was so excited to prove someone wrong to boost her self esteem that she never bothered to read what I had said. So basically we ended up crapping all over a thread with a bunch irrelevant junk.

And it's Wilba, as in Wilbur as pronounced by Australians. That's a man's name.
