Sunny 16 rule

Hi,

Just wondering if the "sunny 16 rule" for older SLR cameras that we religiously follow back then apply to current DSLR or mirroless cameras. I would assume that with the latest technology that this rule no longer apply. What use would it be then for new cameras coming up with f16 or f22 when they are no longer necessary? Or am I missing something?

Is there a equivalent "sunny 16" rule for todays cameras?

Thank you for your inputs.

Regards
