The good ol' "Using Olympus Flash" question

I'm photographing an event this week. Nothing special, just a work thing. It will be in a relatively dark space, so my plan is to use a bit of flash with the Pen-F.

In a perfect world, the following would do the trick:

• Set the camera to Aperture Priority
• Use 17mm lens at f/2 or so
• Use either the provided flash, or a larger TTL flash I have around (maybe with a bounce card)
• Set the flash to -1 or so
• Presumably if WB is set to Auto or Flash, then it will be balanced for the flash exposure

Ideally, the goal is for most of the exposure to come from the flash, but allow some background as well.

Will this work? And will using the exposure compensation dial cause issues for using a flash this way? Or do I have to set everything manually?
