Recovering external drive data in fudged format

Have an external drive here where the box controller failed. The disk inside is 3TB, from 2011 I believe and works, but in a partition manager has three partitions which don't read when plugged in as an internal drive. On the external drive it hadn't been formatted with three partitions anyway. What I'm guessing was going on was that it is a disk of 512 byte sectors with MBR, formatted in smaller partitions and bridged so it was readable to old Oses like XP, but I don't know anything about how to read partitions aligned in this way.

I would buy a controller board part but currently it isn't available. Next option is to get another external drive of the same period to get the controller. But isn't there a fairly standard application solution to read data formatted in this fudged way instead? The drive only contains a small amount of data that wasn't backed up.
