Holding the 11-24L high over civic events - how to do this well?

Last night was my town's annual Christmas tree lighting, with a firetruck bringing in Santa, who proceeded to light up the tree, then there was a choir singing some carols.  I wanted to get some unique shots of it.  I held the 5D4 with an 11-24L, always at 11mm, high over my head on a monopod with my wife holding the phone (connected by wifi) where I could see it. She also tapped the phone to shoot (hard to do that when I'm holding a monopod).

Here are some of the shots I got. Could I have done better? C&C appreciated. How would you do this kind of thing really well?

If it's a *Single* Lens Reflex, why do I need so many lenses?
