Re: Question About Reflectors

I've never used a reflector. I usually use OCF. In fact, even if I don't particularly need to use flash, I'll almost always use it if I can because it usually improves the shot; filling in shadows, etc.

However, using a flash can be cumbersome. Even a simple single speed light/modifier set up.

I do some photographing of people on the street; going up to them, asking them if I can take their pic. I'd like to be able to use a reflector if possible and have thought about getting a small--20"--silver/gold reflector that I could either hold or give to the subject for them to hold.

Does anyone here have any experience with using a small reflector by themselves, without an assistant? Is it even a realistic approach?

Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

If you think using a flash is cumbersome, I don't see how you can even consider using a reflector by yourself.  Trying to hold a camera steady with one hand while trying to properly aim a reflector, even a small one is no fun.  No fun X 10 if there's any bit of a breeze.
