Yes, it is. This is a common way to compensate compasses in ships.

But, I thought the calibration step of the camera compensated for that already?

Well, i can achieve gps calibration but not precise calibration. As i stated, i have never ever been able to do so, believe me i have tried thousands of times at very different locations. Given that i can't tell how accurate the precise calibration turns to be. As it depends on the camera measures and automatic process i would believe it migth have some variation. Maybe would be great if there could be a way to provide the camera some correction data.
