If only owning 1 L lens, which one: 35mm 1.4 ii, 24-70 2.8 ii, or 50mm 1.2?

Or buy second hand 85/1.8 or 100/2.0. That can cure some GAS if that's the point.

I do not own these lens but every review out there claim the results are so good Canon should place an L on them.

I wouldn't. They are sharp with nice separation and very good AF speed but CA wide open can be a problem.

They are best buys for their price though.

I love both those. I use the 85 1.8 for wedding mingling shots, its great. CA can be a problem but fixable, and people dont notice. The 100mm I have is the macro one,its a beauty too.

I have all the classics (28/1.8 USM, 50/1.4 USM, 85/1.8 USM, 100/2.0 USM).

My sharpest lens is Sigma 50-100/1.8 which has a very annoying habit without any rational excuse to miss the focus when you really need it.

Second sharpest is 200/2.8II which is just a little bit sharper than 70-200/2.8II.

100L is way behind (wide open) and focuses much slower than all the above.
