Why doesn't Fuji XT20 match the X-E3 in sharpness?

The sensor doesn't really have much to do with sharpness other than if it for example has an AA-filter which slightly degrades the sharpness.

The level of sharpness mainly depends on the lens(and of course on the handling).

So if you put a really sharp lens on a 1 pixel camera, and handle it well, you will get a really sharp image?

Sorry, but that's just an ignorant question and I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say?

Having a 1 pixel camera/sensor would mean that you could only capture one color thus you would have no contrast and therefore no sharpness to even perceive. But please feel free to show me such a camera/sensor It would be the most pointless camera ever made If you could even call it a camera

Of course you need a certain number of pixels to build an interpretable image.

If the point you're trying to make is that a higher resolution equates to higher sharpness then that is incorrect. A higher resolution means you will capture more details, but you're not gonna get more sharpness, because that is like I said mainly determined by the lens.

Interesting ! Now i am in the process of choosing btw the Xt20 and XE3. Does ths difference regarding sharpness really exist as a fact..or is it merely a subjective interpretation...? sorry, no offence, just trying to understand here. My main concern is the end result for IQ. My main interest is portrait, artistic nude and street photography. Is one of those 2 cameras better for stills ? Or any suggestion for a different camera -competitor- ? Many thanks !

Can't remember whether it was in this thread or a similar one, but it appears there was a mix up  by dpr in some of the shots used, it may even have been corrected by now [so you could check the actual comparison again rather than relying on an old discussion].

Frankly it would be extremely surprising if two cameras released this close to one another, with the same sensor and mostly the same imaging pipeline would show more than sample variation between them. Between cameras of the same X trans generation you choose on other things than IQ.
