DPR's SD1/Merrill Review
1

While browsing around, looking at this and, I came across this little jewel in the SD1 review:

"Note that these tests are based on the sRGB JPEG output of the cameras, in accordance with the Standard Output Sensitivity method defined in ISO 12232:2006, the standard used by camera manufacturers.

By our tests, the SD1's measured ISOs match the marked ISOs near-perfectly, i.e. to better than 1/6 stop accuracy."

And yet, the SD1 is one of the few Sigma cameras that actually fills out the 'SensitivityType' EXIF tag as 'ISO Speed', meaning the Saturation-Based method defined in ISO 12232:2006.

In which case, either DPR's test was about half a stop off , or Sigma's EXIF is wrong.

Either is possible, I reckon. My own testing of Sigma cameras' ISO leads me to believe that is unwise to believe anything that the ISO setting implies. In other words, if you get anywhere closer than 1EV you're a lucky 'tog. No wonder many favor 200 as their magic number.
