Canon EOS-M vs M3 Image Quality

I have both the original EOS-M and the newer M3. I have taken thousands of photos on both of them, using the same copy of 22mm f/2 lens. I have noticed that the 18MP sensor has much better image quality than the newer 24MP sensor. The older sensor produces images which are more "wholesome" and "organic". The images from the newer sensor seem more brittle, washed-out and harsh. I process them the same way using ACR (basically eye-balling until it looks right to my eyes).

Am I imagining things? Has anyone else noticed it?
