I finally feel as if I no longer have GAS - I may be cured for a while :-D
ahhh my friend. The last three words say it all. Gas has no cure, you can only treat the symptoms. You have treated them well with the lenses you have, but have no fear, gas will find a way to convince you there’s something else you need! ;)
yes its hard to ignore peoples gear list at the bottom of every post - stop listing your equipment folks - not helping others with GAS syndrome
Canon's most illogical lenses... but probably their most addictive. Don't get bite by that one and you'll be ok.

To late. Solution Buy a big camera bag, put the lens inside, toss the box before you leave the store and say "What new lens? its been in my camera bag for awhile". Then go shooting until things cool down.

Illogical or specialized? I don't discount the possibility that some consider them status symbols.

All of the above... It's not easy to legitimize the $5,000 - $15,000 price tag with the current crop of alternatives, but we do. The status symbol persona is definitely a huge draw to the "illogical" decision, and I think they are Canon's most specialized lenses with the exception of the 65mm uber Macro when factoring in their cost.

I'm not saying they are not worth the price paid, just saying it doesn't always seem logical. Whenever someone else asks, "Should I buy one" I find it very difficult to say yes. But if they ask me if I'm happy I bought it, I say yes with no hesitation.

I sold my left kidney to get my kit completed to my liking with help from Black Friday.

I think I'm good for a while so I will make every effort to get out more and start taking more photos and less hanging out here on the lens forums.

Body 6D2 - had it over a week now. Overall happy with it.

Zooms: 16-35F4 / 24-70 II F2.8 / 100-400 II

Primes: 35mm Sigma A1.4 / 50F1.8 STM / 100L IS Macro / 135 F2

My walk around lens 24-105L F4 had it since 2006.

x1.4 tele converter Kenko DG Pro 300

The 6D2 and these lenses should cover my every day need from wide angle to low light to landscape, wildlife and portraits. I do very little sports now but I think the 135 with the Kenko x1,4 should cover it.

I promised myself and my wife that this kit should work for me for the next 2-3 years. Lets see how long I can last.

For 4K Videos I have the G85 with the 12-60 Kit lens and the wide angle 14mm F2.5.

I had to sell the 6D , 77D and a few other lenses to complete my new kit so wish me good luck.

My net post will contain photos rather than gear talk. Cheers.

Steve
if i was to start all over again, i would get 16-35 f4.0, 24-70 f2.8 II, and 100-400 II...that would be all. camera? i would get a 5D4 or 5DsR....that would be all! all your other gear is excessive and redundant , IMO. i have total of 12 "L" lenses and 2 zeiss lenses. i don't have time to play with all of them :-D

That’s fighting talk!

Since Steve has suggested that he’s now going to concentrate on posting photos rather than gear talk, why don’t the two of you have a head-to-head on the wildlife thread?

You are missing a fisheye for creative use, impossible to replicate but need it when you want it.

You also need something fast and zoomable in the 70-200 range, many pro photographers go to lens.

Your 50mm 1.8 stm simply can't compete in quality with your other L and sigma primes. Consider throwing it in a trash can and getting the 50L.

I would consider these so you'll have GAS again.

no need for fighting, Pete :-D 16mm--->400mm + 1.4x III gives you some range from landscape to birding and wild life hobbies!!! i am saying that form experience, not from figments of my imagination ;-) i clearly stated: "if it was me, starting all over"! i also stated: i have 12 "L" lenses (including 300 f2.8 II/600 f4.0 II primes), and 2 zeiss lenses! soon i'll be auctioning off a bunch of lenses because they are collecting dust, as i said, there is not enough time or need to play with all 14-15 of those lenses i have. 3 or 4 high IQ lenses mentioned can be used for just about all activities, in my experience! it was only a suggestion anyway. but your mileage may vary.

That’s a shame, I was looking forward to seeing your photos - especially portrait and macro shots - but I can see how that would be difficult if your gear is redundant.

What are you selling? It’s a pity that Zeiss lenses don’t have auto-focus, like say, Sigma, but I might be interested nevertheless, if that’s factored into the price.

If that "new lens" is the 100-400 ii you better find some other tricks for the wife...
