Hi Folks, I know there have been some threads on this topic before, but I want to pose the question from my own standpoint. Especially if any of you fine folks have already done what I am thinking of below.
Situation: I recently sold my M3 and purchased an M5. I already have the EF-M 18-55 + 55-200 combination. The 18-150 is on sale Refurb for a very attractive price at the Canon store. I also have the adapter + the EF-S 55-250 STM.
Question: In light of the above, would you buy the 18-150 with the intention of selling the EF-M 18-55 + 55-200 combination?
Any real life experience with this would be especially appreciated. TIA.
Exact same situation; I ended up selling the 18-55, and kept the 55-200 for extreme reach even though I intended to sell it, like you.
Since you have an adapted EF-S 55-250 though, you've already got that covered. You're in a different boat as I abandoned the adapter completely.
The 18-150 is superior to the 18-55 + 55-200 in that you've got a one stop shop. The 18-150 lived on my M5 75% of the time before I sold it, the other 25% of the time the 22 lived on it.
There's tradeoff's. The 18-55 is sharper than the 18-150. The 55-200 has wonderful bokeh and more reach making for more interesting photos.
For me, portability was the problem, I started going out with just the lens I intended to use towards the end, and now I'm on a G1X III which you don't swap lenses, period. But, I pocket it, take it everywhere, etc.
If lens swaps are holding you up, which they were for me, the 18-150 is a duh.
If not, you're going to get better results with the 18-55 + 55-200 combo. That's life. Except video, that 18-150 has 4-stops of IS and supports hybrid IS.
The 18-150 is a wonderful option.
Don't forget, you can buy, and return it, and pay just return shipping for Canon direct refurb, if you don't like it. I bought and returned an SL1 and EF-S refurbs right before I bought the M5. I paid like $40 to return it, no questions asked other than why I didn't like it, which I was very blunt, as usual as to why.
