I'm trying to decide on either a 30x or 3x compact camera to buy for touring overseas.

I'm told thst photo quality can suffer for a 30x lens but will a I miss some shots by only havibg a 3x zoom camera.

Advice welcomed thanks

30x zoom is only combined with a very small sensor and this will need strong light.

But ONLY if it is combined with a smaller/cheaper camera who's lens has a smaller f/stop, (ala f/5.6 - 6.3).

There are wider zooms that still offer f/2.4 - 2.8 - 4, and thus usable in as low-light levels as a larger sensor camera, (w/ "kit" f/3.5 lens).

Please don't bring "equivalence" into this.

The image in the camera is only the first step. You also need a good software so you can decide: Is this image for printing, HD screen ot 4K screen?

Conclusion- go for 3x!

Only if you are satisfied with a limited "tele", (I AM N-O L-O-N-G-E-R satisfied w/ less than 400-600mm-EFL !!!).

I used a 50mm lens camera for a long time (zooms were very expensive some years ago) but once I started to use a zoom camera it difficult to go back to a camera with a fixed focal lens or limited zoom.
