Re: What retouching software for a beginner.. Mac platform

You kind of asked two questions, one about retouching software for a beginner, but also if there was a better retouching appliction than Ps.

The answer to the second question is "no." Ps is the standard.

But that doesn't mean it's the best for you.

From what you described, you could probably do everything you need in Lr, and it's still the best organizer on the Mac. What you couldn't accomplish in Lr you could do in Ps. The fact that you've had it before means you're at least willing to consider some more complicated image tasks, like the photo bomb example. Simple removal tools in other applications can only go so far; Ps's content aware fill, for example, is a step above what most others can do.

And yeah, there are other programs that have a more gradual learning curve. But you quickly run out of resources. Ps and Lr have more tutorials, books, podcasts, videos, college classes, etc than any other product by orders of magnitude. So at the end of the day it's often easier to use them. I'd suggest you download the trial and give it a run. The Lr Classic plus Photoshop would seem to be your best option.
