Yes, the 400DO ll alone is sharper than the 300 ll with 1.4. I mistakenly added a 1.4 to the DO.

ok, that makes sense but 300 f2.8 II by itself is probably the sharpest lens there is. even using 2.0x III produces an incredible output! i have heard canon 400 f2.8 II is just as good in IQ.

All of these lenses are excellent.  Any differentiation is just splitting hairs.  I'd like to have one of each in a perfect world.
