I would like to have a 18-105 zoom but the only one I'm finding is a power zoom.

Is there a down side to the power zoom if I don't need that feature?

It is non-collapsible, size-wise it is similar to the 18-200 in a collapsed state.

Positives:

- fixed f/4 aperture

- smooth power zoom

- less dust entering the lens

- lighter construction

- improved optics

The lens can be compared with the (smaller) E1670Z, it scores fairly similar in IQ, and is a lot cheaper.

Another positive is that the zoom is internal. The lens doesn't need to extend. Which is also better for keeping out dust etc.
