Darkness in Aperture mode on d850

The 1st photo below was shot in aperture priority mode, with a 23W lunimus light 3 feet away from the subject. The subject is bright to my eyes. but the photo looks dark, and the histogram seems hit the wall, cannot go any further to the right side, no matter I shoot raw or JPG.

The 2nd photo was shot without the luminus light.

The two photos are very close in terms of brightness and histogram.

I can understand the brightness is similar because camera decides how much exposure it should be in aperture priority mode.

what I don't understand is

1. why the photo looks dark, especially the 1st photo shot with light?

2. why the histogram is not evenly distributed in priority mode?

Thanks a lot.
