Still needs a small on-board internal battery which may be dead or disconnected...non-volatile became volatile:-)

The clock (date/time) needs a small battery, but the user settings are more likely stored in flash memory when the camera is turned off, and loaded into RAM at power up. eMMC is inexpensive and popular for this sort of thing, but it could also be eeprom or SPI NOR. Maybe even parallel NOR. Could be the same memory used to store Firmware. Anyone willing to take their camera apart to find out?
