Camera tests can be misleading

I was taking some test photos with the Panasonic tz100 and  noticed that the zoom seemed powerful for a 10x zoom. I also noticed afterwards that the quality  of my fully zoomed in on subject photos was not good. I'm now thinking that a customer may have turned on the digital zoom when he was testing the camera. I don't know if this camera indicates that the digital zoom is on.

So next time I'll make sure I reset the camera first before testing it.
