Hello, new to the forum; I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000; this will be my second camera; have a D7100, with very good set of lenses, as you can see in my gear list

I have been debating this for sometime, between a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III

I know that they are not the exactly same type of camera, but after looking at a lot of compacts that is what I narrowed down to

I have read the DP reviews, and been browsing this forum

I have also looked at these links

Although they are rated very close; I like the reach of the Panny and some of its features, number of focus points, max shutter speed, optical zoom, etc.

The only thing I am concerned about is reliability, getting a good copy and dust in the lens issue

The question - I am headed in the right direction?

Thanks for your help

I can't comment on the Sony RX100 III other than to say that I tried one and didn't care for it. Just the same there are many people who love the camera.

The FZ1000 is a different story and I do like that camera very much. It's a great general purpose camera and provided a person doesn't mind the size and realizes that any camera with a one-inch sensor will have a few limitations, the FZ1000 has few, if any, faults.

You don't read many complaints about reliability so I don't think that's an issue and Panasonic is still offering their (free) three-year extended factory warranty on the camera.

When you consider the ability/features of the camera along with its low price and that extended warranty the FZ1000 is a hard camera not to buy.
