Disabling Wavelet NR (Bacon Camera) Experience?

For the next year or so I plan to stay with a ZTE Android L phone that does not support DNG or the rest of the Camera2 API. Many have no doubt moved on to DNG, this might interest those with older or low end devices, but also some lacking patience to process lossless format for smartphone photos.

I get reasonably good JPEG output via Open Camera and Camera FV-5, but am often bothered by noise reduction smearing and loss of detail in certain conditions, even when locking to 100 ISO most of the time. It surprises me that NR "cuts in" and starts fingerpainting images regardless of good lighting. Poking around for an app that could disable NR, I found Bacon Camera and FreeDCam, not very well documented or much online discussion.

Some preliminary comparisons of my usual apps with Bacon Camera jpegs disabling wavelet NR at ISO 100 with similar WB and exposure settings (tripod mounted) show noticeably more detail. I would be interested in user experience, practical tips or some useful online documentation re disabling "wavelet denoise" at various JPEG settings - first impression being Bacon wouldn't be a default app, but that NR-off setting would be useful on a tripod at low ISO with good light or to save NR for post-processing software when needed.
