And I think that what people do. If they want SR on primes, best selection of APS-C glass ,inbuilt GPS etc they go Pentax, If they want best in class AF/Flash they go Nikon and if they want to be in with the in crowed they go Canon/Sony depending how old they are

Though manual transmission automobiles are still the strong majority in Europe (it's not close to 90%, BTW), the percentage of those gearboxes is dropping. Why?

Same reason Automatics are so popular in the US - Path of least resistance , people are lazy and though you may have better fuel, performance and control with a Manual it harder to learn and requires decision making every-time you drive !...

Given government heavy subsidises on fuel most Americans don't care about the 3-8 Mpg gained if those subsidises were dropped and Americans were paying $10 + a gallon you'd see a rapid change in perception on Manuals

Pretty much why once outside professional AF in video is a must despite it obvious weakness as a solution when videoing.

Stills are slightly different where Automatic and fuzzy logic functions is very capable if a little slower than Manual focusing and allows SoSo technical photographers to achieve results considerably above their skill levels.

This allows 'creative' photographers who are traditionally weak technically to achieve results that match their minds eye rather than an under/over exposed blurrred mess.

But what functions are needed depends on a photographers weak areas, if its camera holding then SR on all lens could be considerably more important than intelligent AF tracking.

Oh and my 90% came from here

Honda Accord with CVT achieves higher fuel efficiency with the standard CVT than with the optional 6-speed manual.

Audi A4 -- same as above (automatic has higher MPG than manual)

Do you use AF, AE, heck let's include digital or are you lazy?
