Luminar 2018

There is no cheap and solid replacement at the moment, unfortunately. Capture One is definitely not cheap.

The only (minor) hope I have left at this stage for any Lightroom killer is On1 Photo RAW. Yes, the 2017 version was abysmal (still, much better than Luminar 2018!). But the team really pushed forward and delivered a lot of updates throughout the year, significantly improving the product.
The problem is not replacing Lightroom - there are comparable products out there; some like Capture One, are even better than Lightroom. The one that can’t be replaced is Photoshop - the key to Adobe Subscription’s wild success. There is absolutely nothing remotely comparable to Photoshop out there, from Smart Objects to Typographic Tools to Vector Tools, plus the number of plugins, tutorials, brushes, presets, actions, books, features, etc.

In the end, people realize that trying to duplicate the entire feature set contained in the PS/LR combo is an excercise in futility (for the vast majority of those who use Photoshop beyond the absolute basics).

Sharpening, applying filters, zoom in-out, nearly everything is slow but not horribly so. Mine has not crashed even once (but get error message after I close, thank God only after closing it :) ). Windows 7 Pro.

Export takes a lot of time, that is the most annoying thing so far. Other than that, it is not a bad UI and if you watch tutorial videos you learn the software quite fast. I think it will take 3-4 updates to smooth out the issues.

Saying that, it did not take too long time to make 5-6 pictures of may daughter look really good. I kind of liked the results, especially color.

I will try both Lightroom and Luminar for some time.

Affinity was not good for me. It really felt like an Alpha version (trial version). Luminar is more like a late-Beta :) Not as bad as people scream.

yeah, it's slow but nothing that bugs me to the point of disowning it...still learning my way around

It's not bad for a first release - hopefully it will be updated soon with stability and speed fixes. With the pre order, I was able to get a one year Smug Mug subscription, which makes the deal, for me, a good one.

I tried the WIndows version first. It's slow. It makes my laptop fan go lke crazy. It crashes even!

On my MacBook it's OK but not that fast as I expected it to be.

And what the hell of a version are Anthony Morganty or Serge Ramelli testing??? This is not what I got from Luminar with the 2018 version!

Definitely seems like they shouldn't have launched the windows version at the same time.

I'm just upset the damned Apple Photos extension doesn't appear for me as I use it as my DAM and want to be able to send the pics back and forth between them. Not one way edit.

I am having the same problems as everyone in here with Luminar, If you think ON1 Photo RAW was buggy Luminar takes the crown big time, All in all I am having pretty good results with on1 PR 2018 a few bugs especially in browser but I am sure in a couple updates it will be fine.

Has anyone else that pre-ordered not received a link to download the "final" release? It's not in my junk folder either, I've checked. Even the My Software section on the MacPhun site says I need to buy it.

Nevermind, I downloaded the trial and activated it through that. Now the My Software section has been updated.

Leaving this here for anyone else that has this issue.

I had high hopes for this program but the Windows version is no where near a release state. It's not even beta. It is almost unusable as a plug in, works better as a stand alone but will lock up sometimes with multiple slider use for filters. No save function just export and take forever to load and work on a raw image. There are also some issues with how the UI was designed. If you have the filter drop down menu displayed it covers the 'Done' button. I'm sticking with it but they need to get these and other issues fixed asap. Seems like the MAC version works great.

It's almost as if they didn't test this thing on a Windows machine. Dumb! Especially since there are so many other processors out there. I'm asking for my refund. Life is too short to endure this kind of frustration and since I have no intention of getting a Mac anytime soon, I rather have the bucks back.

I've said elsewhere that I'm a bit disappointed but I do think given a little time the bugs will be ironed out. I got a good looking edit from it last night albeit slower than lightroom, but thought that even though clunky, the raw editor part gives good image quality. I'll wait for few updates and see how it goes

I agree. I think the editor's results are good. The UK and performance issues can probably be resolved in a couple of months.

having a play for the first time...............oh no!

Running windows 7...with loads of power and an expensive graphics card.

I am so disappointed. No wonder they wanted us all to pre order. If we had waiting for reviews how many of us would have bothered ?

It is beyond slow. I cant see myself waiting for the programme to catch up with me resizing or adding effects.

I could make a cup of tea while I wait :)

Just not working for me ..........sad

I dont have any news from them since yesterday morning... I sent 3 emails, got in touch via Twitter and got linked with someone who asked me for details, and no responses since then.

So now I want a refund. I'm still waiting for a response about that too!

I think it will likely take a few working days before they get back. Very likely they have a few thousand people emailing them. It wouldn't surprise me if they spend few days ironing out the major bugs, fix them and then get back to users, rather than making excuses
