D7500 autofocuses at f/9.5 !
Getting older - aren't we all.
I sold my 500 f/4, too heavy and unwieldy, and now I use a D500 with the 300 f/4 PF, usually with either 1.4x or 1.7x extenders for my bird photography mainly because of the light weight of the combination, and the quality.
Still too heavy for my wife, so I bought her (read us!) a D7500, and with the new 70-300 f/6.3 P lens that's about as light as you can go short of using a D3400.
300 mm alone is too short for most birds, so out of curiosity I added a Kenko 1.4x Teleplus pro 300 to the 70-300 P and to my surprise, the D7500 not only autofocuses, the pics are pretty good as well.
We are blessed with good light in Australia, even too much in the tropics!
I only wish we had all this fantastic gear 50 years ago.
Despite all this good stuff, it's still about being there.
